My mother always said, "You can judge a woman by her springroll. So choose only the finest ingredients and never skimp."

Every time we ate a springroll made by somebody else, Mom would cast a critique: "Not enough meat." "Cabbage is overcooked." "Too much MSG, no real flavors." She was an expert at reading people based on the springrolls they made. If someone's springroll had too much filling, Mom might have thought that person was generous in spirit. Or if the springroll had too much MSG, she might have concluded that person was too snooty, disguising her true 'flavors' underneath. But such critical comments were few and far between. In Mom's rose-colored glasses, everyone was "a good springroll," or at least had the potential to be one.
